emphasizes on the importance of promoting the total equitable
participation of both men and women in efforts aimed at improving poverty
reduction , food security and sustainability of rural development.

Virunga community programs clearly states that it is the right of women, men, girls and boys to participate in and benefit equally from the development process. We provide a framework of mainstreaming gender in all policies, planning and programming in areas within the Virunga massif. Our program is keen aware that the strategy will bring deliberate attention on how women, men, girls and boys are reached, influenced , affected and involved in all aspects of inhibiting factors which hinder women such as :
- Violence against girls and women in rural and urban Rwandese communities
-Equal opportunities to both Women and men in the labor market
- Prevention of unequal division of work between women and men
-Provision of women overall control over property and assets by women
Our mandate is to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment through gender mainstreaming in the development process, capacity building, social protection, community participation and public – private partnerships.
