Full Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Goma
Depart Kigali, drive to the border of Rwanda and DRC,Grand Bariere/La corniche, after clearing with customs, enter Goma town, and proceed to your hotel check in, afternoon city tour of Goma town and surrounding environs.Overnight: Caritas
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast depart for Parc National des Virunga, embark on a once in a life time experience of tracking mountain gorillas. Spend an hour amongst them. Return to your Hotel/Lodge for lunch. Afternoon optional visit to a local King, interact with the local community.Overnight: Caritas Hotel
Day 3: Volcano Hike
Depart your hotel in Kigali at 0400hrs, drive to the border of Rwanda and DRC, Grand Bariere/La cornice, after clearing with Customs, enter Goma then proceed to Kibati, where you will start the trek walking through lush forest and lava fields with a steep incline near the top, and includes an overnight stay in the Nyiragongo Crater Cabanas on the volcano rim.The stunning views both day and night make this an unforgettable experience. Later stay for overnight in tents at the rim of the giant crater high above the active lava lake.
Things to bring for Nyiragongo Hiking:
Sleeping Bag, meals (lunch, dinner and breakfast) Change of dry clothes, Rain gear, Good walking shoes, Warm Clothes (sweater, jacket) it is cold up the rim. Sun cream, warm Hat, Torch, Camera and any other personal toiletries.
Day 4 : Volcano Descend
After breakfast descend the volcanoes, then drive to Goma town, Proceed to the shores of Lake Kivu, take an afternoon speedboat to Idjwi Islands – “Land beyond mist” Visit the King of the Island and witness how they perform Black magic and witchcraft.Overnight: King’s Hotel
Day 5 : Idjwi – Bukavu
After breakfast visit the town during morning hours, interact with local population – afternoon take a boat to Bukavu, if time permits optional city tour of Bukavu.
Day 6 : Lowland Gorilla Trek
Breakfast drive to the Kahuzi Biega National Park enters the park for Gorilla trekking, later in the afternoon drive back to Bukavu town.Overnight: Panorama Hotel
Day 7: Bukavu – Kigali
Drive to the border of DRC and Rwanda, enter Rwanda via Rusizi border post and drive to Kigali.
